Grades 1–3 students took part in a land-based learning activity around blueberry picking last week on Thursday, September 10. The Cree word for blueberries is 𝙞𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙖 (ih-YIH-nih-mih-nah).
Joined by Indigenous Education Lead Mr. Chalifoux and local Elder Joyce Hunt, students enjoyed the beautiful fall weather out on the land in our boreal forest and picked many wild blueberries. Back at school, they helped clean the berries.
Some students took berries home, while Joussard School’s amazing cook, Paulette Lapointe, made blueberry tarts for the little berry harvesters to enjoy.
Thanks to everyone who helped make this experience possible for our students, and to our driver, Mr. Boulanger, for transporting students safely to and from the school.
