Joussard School brought literacy to life throughout the month of March with its annual Literacy Month celebration, led by the school's Student Literacy Committee.
The Student Literacy Committee is made up of students in Grades 3-6 who volunteer to promote a love of reading and writing across the school and community. Each year, members take the lead in brainstorming, voting on, and organizing a wide range of activities designed to make literacy both engaging and fun, Supported by Vice Principal Ms. Meghan Adams, the committee also provides meaningful mentorship opportunities, as new members collaborate alongside more experienced students.
This year's celebration included favourites such as Read My Shirt Day, Comic Book Club, Reading Buddies, Guest Reader Day, and Character Dress Up Day, which saw students and staff arrive as a wide range of beloved book characters. The month concluded with "Breakfast, Blanket, and Books", where the entire school gathered in the atrium to enjoy a shared reading experience in a cozy setting, complete with breakfast.
The Student Literacy Committee also played an important role behind the scenes, helping to organize and run the school's Book Fair during Parent-Teacher Interview evenings, as well as contributing to daily morning announcements throughout the month.
Literacy Month continues to be a highlight of the school year at Joussard School, fostering creativity, connection, and a lifelong appreciation for literature.
