Kindergarten Registration Night 2026-27

Kindergarten at Joussard School

Joussard School is hosting a Kindergarten Registration Night on Tuesday, March 24, from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Families are invited to visit the school, meet our administration team, connect with our Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Shyla Massaar (Ms. M), and explore the learning environment. As a close-knit Kindergarten to Grade 6 school, strong relationships with families and students are at the heart of everything we do. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the Kindergarten program and what students can expect as they begin their school journey.

Meet the Teacher

A Little Bit About Me (Mrs. M.)

I have been working in education for the past 10 years. For the last 8 years, while raising my three children, I have worked as a substitute teacher within the school division. Last year I had the opportunity to cover a maternity leave teaching Kindergarten at Joussard School, which was a wonderful experience. Prior to becoming a teacher, I worked with youth in a counselling capacity and also spent time working with preschool-aged children in a daycare setting. These experiences helped shape my passion for supporting young children’s development both academically and socially.

What I Love About Kindergarten

What I enjoy most about teaching Kindergarten is the excitement and curiosity that students bring to the classroom every day. They are incredibly enthusiastic about learning and discovering new skills. The growth that happens throughout the school year is amazing to watch. Students gain so much confidence and independence, and it’s remarkable to watch them develop new skills, interests, and friendships over the years. It is so rewarding to help build that strong foundation for their future learning.

Why Kindergarten Is Such an Important Year

Kindergarten is such a special and important year because it’s when many of those foundational skills begin to grow. Students start building their understanding of numbers, develop early reading and writing skills, and learn how to express their ideas. Just as importantly, they learn how to work and play with others, make friends, share ideas, and build positive social relationships that help them feel confident at school.

What Students Will Experience in Our Classroom

In our kindergarten classroom, we focus on creating a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel comfortable trying new things, asking questions and exploring their interests.

Our program includes a balance of play-based learning, hands-on activities, and structured early literacy and numeracy lessons. I believe that children learn best when they are exploring, creating, and discovering through play. Throughout the year, students will have opportunities in activities such as storytelling, journal writing, fine motor skills, math games, creative art projects, and sensory play. We also spend time building social skills through group work, circle discussions, and cooperative play. My goal is for students to feel excited about coming to school each day while building the academic skills and confidence that will support them throughout their learning journey.

We look forward to welcoming new families to Joussard School and supporting each child as they begin their learning journey.
