๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ง๐จ๐ญ๐: This post includes images from a traditional harvesting experience, including a harvested duck.
Joussard Schoolโs Grade 5/6 class recently spent the day immersed in land to table learning, connecting deeply with traditional knowledge and practices.
With guidance from Knowledge Sharer Ernest Patenaude, students learned about sรฎsรฎp (SEE-seep, duck) harvesting, from plucking and gutting to singeing and carefully cleaning. Each step was taught with care and respect, reinforcing the importance of honouring the animal and understanding our relationship with the land and our winged relatives.
This hands on experience is part of a larger journey of land based learning, decolonizing diets, and reclaiming the knowledge of living off the land.
These teachings also connect directly to the Science curriculum, including learning about living systems, food chains, and the internal and external structures of animals, brought to life through authentic, real world experience.
The day ended in the best way possible, sharing a warm, nourishing bowl of duck soup together. Learning that feeds both body and spirit.
Thank you to Ernest Patenaude for sharing your knowledge with our students.
